Forum on Chen Yun and China’s Economy Construction was jointly held by the Party History Research Office of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, former Residence of Chen Yun and Qingpu Revolutionary and History Memorial and the Shanghai Branch of China Development Bank in Shanghai Library on the morning of September 24. It was to celebrate the 60th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, commemorate the achievements veteran proletarian revolutionists made to socialist construction, advance in-depth study on Chen Yun’s economic thoughts and accelerate the overall, coordinated and sustainable development of socialist economic construction.

The Library invited six senior specialists in the fields of Party history and economy to the meeting, including Zhu Jiamu, former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fang Weizhong, former Deputy Director of the State Planning Commission and the current President of the China Society of Macroeconomics, Wei Xinghua, Professor of the Renmin University of China, Zhao Shigang, Researcher of the CCCPC Party Literature Research Office, Xu Guoliang, Director of the Publicity and Education Department of the Party History Research Office of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Professor Shang Xiaocai, Deputy Director of the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Office of the East China Normal University. They respectively delivered speeches titled “Chen Yun and Deng Xiaoping at the Primary Stage of Reform and Opening up”, “The First Step of Seeking Truth from Facts is to Figure out What is the Facts”, “Comrade Chen Yun’s Thoughts on Planning and Market Lead China’s Reform of Economic System”, “Chen Yun’s Ideas on Economic Reform and Socialist Market Economy”, “Be Pragmatic and Realistic: The Precious Spiritual Legacy Left by Chen Yun in Shanghai” and “Chen Yun’s World Outlook and Methodology and Their Significances.”

Ma Chunlei, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, delivered closing remarks at the meeting. Ma spoke highly of this forum, saying that the study and research of history today shall serve for the better development of society. He thought the theme of this forum, “Chen Yun and China’s Economy Construction”, would inspire the current economic construction in China. More than 200 people attended the forum, including Chen Weihua, the representative of Chen Yun’s relatives, Yu Keming and Xu Jiangang, Director and Deputy Director of the Party History Research Office of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Chen Jizhong, President of the Shanghai Branch of China Development Bank, Ma Yu, Curator of Chen Yun Memorial, representatives from the Administration Committee of Chen Yun Memorial, the Party School organs of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, heritage and museum organs and universities. Ma Jifen, Secretary of the General Party Branch and Deputy Curator of Chen Yun Memorial, presided over the forum.
