On June 14, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Research Center of Chen Yun and Contemporary China of the Association of National History of the People’s Republic of China jointly held the symposium on learning General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Remarks on June 12 and commemorating the 110th anniversary of the birth of Chen Yun in Beijing. Chen Yuan, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC and the eldest son of Chen Yun, addressed the symposium. General Chi Haotian, former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, General Liu Yuan, Political Commissar of the General Logistics Department of PLA and the son of Liu Shaoqi, Li Min, Deng Rong, and Ren Yuanzheng, the respective daughter of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Ren Bishi, Zhou Bingde, the niece of Zhou Enlai, Major General Liu Jian, former Vice-Dean of PLA Academy of Equipment and grandson of Zhu De and other descendants of former generations of Party and state leaders attended the symposium. Zhang Quanjing, Consultant of the Association of National History of the People’s Public of China and former Head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Li Dianren, former Political Commissar of National Defense University of People's Liberation Army delivered speeches at the symposium. Others attending included Yang Bo, former Minister of Light Industry, Xu Yongyue, Consultant of the Association of National History of the People’s Public of China and former Minister of Ministry of State Security, You Lin, former Chief Editor of Qiushi Journal, Yang Shengqun, former Executive Deputy Director of the CCCPC Party Literature Research Office, Zhang Qihua, Vice Chairman of the Research Center of Chen Yun and Contemporary China and former Deputy Director of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Tingda, former leader of the Discipline Inspection Group of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of CPC in Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Hongfeng, former leader of the Discipline Inspection Group of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of CPC in Ministry of Culture, and Luo Yang, Honorary President of the Chinese Ballad Singers Association. The symposium was presided over by Zhu Jiamu, Executive Vice President of the Association of National History of the People’s Public of China, former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and former Director of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies.
Chen Yuan, in his remarks, highlighted that the Party is engaging in the great battle with many new historical features and the development of the four-pronged comprehensive strategy. At the same time, the goal of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation encountered an unprecedented opportunity to be realized. Standing at a new historical starting point, the Party shoulders the responsibility to live up to the people's trust in and expectation of us and stand new tests under new historical conditions. Responding to General Secretary Xi's important remarks on June 12, the commemoration of Chen Yun shall rest on the learning of his firm belief, strong Party principles, earnest, frugal style and hardworking spirit so as to unswervingly carry forward the great cause developed by veteran revolutionists. This is our responsibility and the best way to remember them.
Zhang Quanjing said that General Secretary Xi’s summarization of Chen Yun’s life and thoughts in his important remarks on June 12 were concise and comprehensive. Equal attention should be paid to Chen’s contributions to both organization and Party affairs and economic development. For example, ideas like “the conduct of the ruling Party is of paramount importance to the Party” and “Party discipline shall never be violated” were first proposed by Chen Yun. The commemoration of Chen Yun shall refer to the learning of General Secretary Xi’s important remarks on June 12 and Chen Yun’s thoughts and conducts, so as to prepare for reform and opening up as well as modernization construction, and carry the Party’s cause, the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the cause of Communism through to the end.
Li Dianren spoke highly of the Association of National History of the People’s Public of China for holding the symposium only one day after General Secretary Xi's important remarks at the symposium to mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of Chen Yun on June 12. He praised the Association as being sensitive in politics, active in work and pragmatic in conduct. He also called on all members to study and implement the guidelines proposed in General Secretary Xi’s important remarks, inherit and carry forward Chen Yun’s noble characters so as to unswervingly advance the great cause developed by veteran revolutionists.
Zhu Jiamu noted, all attendees agreed that General Secretary Xi’s remarks highly evaluated Chen Yun’s outstanding achievements and noble characters on June 12, and thus were significant for understanding Chen Yun’s thoughts and conducts, and all expressed their determination to respond to the call of General Secretary Xi and learn from Chen Yun and veteran revolutionists so as to unswervingly carry forward the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Zhu pointed out that General Secretary Xi had delivered three important speeches at symposiums marked the 120th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birth, the 110th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping’s and Chen Yun’s birth during two and a half years since the 18th CPC National Congress, which all contained admiration towards the Chinese nation, the CPC, the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and veteran revolutionists; acute grasp of mainstreams, essences and their relationships in the history of modern China, the CPC and the People’s Public of China; and deep understanding of Mao Zedong Thought, socialism with Chinese characteristics and great spirit and noble characters of veteran revolutionists. Therefore, he encouraged all attendees to combine the learning of Xi’s remarks on June 12 with that of the other two to deepen the understanding.
Liu Jian, Xu Jianping, Curator of Chen Yun Memorial, and Zhao Shigang, Associate Counsel of the CCCPC Party Literature Research Office delivered speeches on behalf of the descendants of veteran revolutionists, all monuments and researchers of Chen Yun respectively. More than 60 people attended the meeting, including Zhang Xingxing, Deputy Director of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies and the General Secretary of the Association of National History of the People’s Public of China, Wu Li, Deputy Director of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies, Jiang Shuping, Director of the Third Editing and Research Division of the CCCPC Party Literature Research Office, relatives of Chen Yun, experts, reporters and related staff.
