Symposium Marking the 110th Anniversary of the Birth of Comrade Chen Yun HeldBei

On the morning of June 12, the CPC Central Committee held a symposium to mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Chen Yun at the Great Hall of the People. President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission addressed the symposium. Xi, in his remarks, emphasized that we are called by the great cause and inspired by solemn mission.“We shall unswervingly continue to push forward the great cause developed by the older generation of revolutionists. It’s our responsibility and the best way to remember them,” he added.

Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee including Li Keqiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Wang Qishan, Zhang Gaoli attended the symposium, and Liu Yunshan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee presided over the symposium.

In his speech, Xi recalled Comrade Chen Yun's outstanding contributions to the revolution, and China's subsequent construction and reform, hailing him a “great proletarian revolutionary, politician, an outstanding Marxist, the founder of China's socialist economy and a tested, excellent Party and state leader.”Comrade Chen Yun was also an important member of the first generation of central collective leadership with Comrade Mao Zedong at the core and of the second generation with Comrade Deng Xiaoping at the core. President Xi said that Chen Yun would be remembered by the Party and the people for his contributions to the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the establishment of basic socialist economic and political systems, the development of reform and opening up and the construction of socialist modernization.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the bitter and glorious historical period of the 20th century saw the emergence of a huge number of outstanding CPC members. Comrade Chen Yun's firm belief, strong Party principles, earnest, frugal style and hardworking spirit deserve to be remembered forever. He called on everyone to learn Comrade Chen Yun’s upholding of belief. No matter in what kind of situation, Chen never gave up his belief on Marxism and Communism. All party members must uphold the spirit of the Communist, combine the reform of objective world with the subject one and practically solve right views on world outlook, value outlook, outlook on life, practice the iron bones of the communists, and solidly build an unbreakable wall of belief, so as to unswervingly fight for the common ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

President Xi encouraged all of us to learn from Comrade Chen Yun’s firm Party spirit. Comrade Chen gave the highest priority to the interests of revolution, strictly followed the Party discipline and persevered in execution of the Party’s decisions. Under the new circumstance of comprehensively enforcing strict party discipline, all Party members shall consistently temper Party spirit, strengthen discipline building, resolutely uphold Party unity and safeguard the authority of the CPC Central Committee and ensure that the entire Party move together in one mind and at one pace. President Xi also urged all CPC members to learn from Comrade Chen Yun’s devotion to the people. Chen always attached great importance to the relationship between the Party and the people. He never forgot that he was a CPC member; therefore being strict with himself, he was honest and upright. He fought against privilege and corruption and treated people with justice and fairness. Facing the new arduous and onerous situation of comprehensively deepening reform, all Party members shall stay with the people, consider the interest of common people, work hard to solve the problems and do practical work, and pool strength together to drive the cause of the Party and the country.

President Xi called on all Party members to learn from Comrade Chen Yun’s pursuit of seeking truth from facts. Comrade Chen always sought truth from facts and made decisions based on investigation. He strove for steady progress rather than exaggerated achievements and instant benefits. All Party members shall put this into various works and conduct frequent, extensive and in-depth investigation to understand fact and objective laws, so as to lay a solid foundation for coordinated development of the "Four Comprehensives." President Xi encouraged all Party members to learn Comrade Chen Yun’s spirit of working hard. Comrade Chen boasted high-level thought theories and problem solving capability derived from persistent learning from practice. He perfectly integrated learning and innovation. All CPC members shall regard learning as a political responsibility, a spiritual pursuit and a lifestyle; continuously learn the nourishment of Marxism philosophical wisdom, adhere to and apply the dialectical materialist outlook and methodology, and acquire extensive knowledge of all aspects, so as to let us benefit from learning.

When presiding over the symposium, Liu Yunshan said that Xi's remarks provided a comprehensive review of Comrade Chen Yun's lifetime of glory, and highly evaluated his outstanding achievements and noble characters. Xi also called on all CPC members to learn and promote Comrade Chen Yun’s firm belief, strong Party principles, realistic and pragmatic style, simple public servant feelings and hardworking spirit. Xi’s speech had an important guiding significance in inspiring the whole Party, the country and Chinese people of all ethnic groups to inherit noble demeanor of veteran revolutionists, so as to unswervingly advance socialism with Chinese characteristics. Liu urged all Party members to closely combine, coordinate and promote the strategic layout of the "Four Comprehensives”, and integrate the special education of “Three Stricts and Three Earnests” to study carefully and practically implement.

Leng Rong, Director of the CCCPC Party Literature Research Office; Qu Qingshan, Head of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee; Wang Wanbin, Vice Secretary-General of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee; Xiao Jie, Deputy Secretary of the State Council; and Yang Xiong, Mayor of Shanghai made remarks successively.

Others, including members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, leaders from NPCStanding Committee, the State Council, National Committee of CPPCC, leading comrades from related departments of the Party, Chinese governments, the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the masses, Beijing and Shanghai, as well as Comrade Chen Yun’s relatives, friends, original staff and hometown representatives attended the symposium.
