Opened on June 6, 2000, Chen Yun Memorial is located in Liantang Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai. Approved by the central government, it’s a celebrity-featured exhibition hall that systematically showcases the achievements of Chen Yun. The Memorial houses a multitude of pictures, texts, and materials of Chen Yun. With various exhibition materials and abundant exhibits, the Memorial closed the main hall in August, 2014, and put it under transformation for eight months. The new hall has brought in more contents, and combined precious historical documents, abundant physical cultural relics with modern technologies to upgrade traditional exhibition mode, so as to make the contents more closely combined with the new style. As a result, the overall appearance has been improved, and the exhibition has become more dynamic, and the Memorial has been forged as an experience venue with modern features.
Chen Yun was a great proletarian revolutionary, politician, outstanding Marxist, and an important pioneer and founder of socialist economic construction of China. He was also a seasoned, excellent leader of the CPC and the state, as well as a key member of the first generation of central leaders with Mao Zedong as the core and the second generation of central leaders with Deng Xiaoping as the core.
Throughout his revolutionary career over 70 years, Chen Yun stayed true to his ideal, and was loyal to the CPC and people. He sought truth from facts, and held firmly to the truth, and was good at drawing lessons from past experience. He valued practical approaches, and was always modest, discreet, and was indifferent to fame and wealth. He dedicated his life to and made immortal deeds for the establishment and consolidation of the socialist system, and to the launch and development of socialist reform and opening up, and to modernization, thus establishing immortal exploits.
By displaying his deeds and part of his relics, it means to inspire people to carry forward the thoughts, morality and manner of Chen Yun, so as to fight for the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation along the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
The thinking behind the whole exhibition is that, with the timeline as the clue and the vicissitudes of the Chinese society as the backdrop, we hope to highlight the role Chen Yun has played in crucial moments, and underline his role as an important member of two generations of central collective leadership, and underscore his exploration in building socialism with Chinese characteristics, and mirror the grand journey of the CPC as it develops and grows.
