Hall Two: The Great Contribution for Socialist Construction

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Chen Yun successively served as the Vice Prime Minister of the Government Administration Council and the Director of the Financial and Economic Committee, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Prime Minister of the State Council, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Committee, etc., becoming an important member of the first generation of the CPC central collective leadership with Mao Zedong as the core. He took charge of national financial and economic work for many years, developed new ways of implementing the instructions of the CPC Central Committee and Mao Zedong, and followed a down-to-earth principle. Based on China’s realities, he has proposed many guiding ideologies, important guidelines and major measures. In this way, he made outstanding contributions to rapidly recovering the national economy and ensuring peaceful living in the early years of the People’s Republic of China, implementing the central procurement and distribution of grain, cotton and other farm products, carrying out socialist transformation of private ownership of the means of production step by step, launching and laying foundation for socialist economic development and socialist industrialization, as well as effectively overcoming the hardship of national economy from the end of 1950s to the beginning of 1960s. During the later stage of the Great Cultural Revolution, in the face of the serious effects of the turbulent situations, he analyzed the new developments of the world, and advocated the study of modern capitalism and using foreign investment to serve the Chinese economy, thus promoting foreign economic work.  

Hall Two features “the Huaihai Campaign” on the economic front, an important initiator and founder of socialist economy, contributing ideas to overcome the hardship of national economy, and his adversity during “the Cultural Revolution”. The hall includes 95 pictures, 66 documents, 50 physical articles, 2 artistic works, 9 highlighted text boards, 1 large multi-media interactive exhibit, and 3 multi-media exhibits. In order to highlight his historical contributions to stabilizing prices, reviving national economy, and his deeds during the first Five-Year Plan period, we have arranged large scenes simulating the event of closing stock exchanges, part of his office at Beichang Street, and the rolling-out of the Jiefang truck made by Changchun First Automotive Works.
