Hall Three: The Leading role in Embarking on a Path of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics

In October 1976, Chen Yun actively participated in the decision-making and fighting of smashing the Gang of Four. After the Gang of Four was smashed, he resolutely supported Deng Xiaoping in rejoining the CPC central leadership, advocated to put the Tiananmen Square Incident happened on April 5 of 1976 in perspective and re-assess the Incident, redressed unjust, feigned and misjudged cases, actively supported the criticism over the wrong guidelines of “Two Whatevers”, and promoted the big debate over the standard of truth. At the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, he was re-elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Committee, and elected as the Major Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. After the 13th CPC National Congress, Chen Yun was appointed as the Director of the CPC Central Advisory Commission. As an important member of the second generation of central collective leadership with Deng Xiaoping as the core, Chen Yun, working with other comrades of the central collective leadership, led the CPC in setting things right in ideological line, political line and organizational lineand in evaluating the historical position of Mao Zedong as it really was; he followed and developed Mao Zedong Thought, formulated and carried out the Party's basic line, namely, making economic development the central task, upholding the Four Cardinal Principles and remaining committed to reform and opening up. He advanced the party building during the new period, promoted the supersession of the old cadres by the younger ones and cooperation between them, and maintained the stability of the CPC and the state. In a word, he devoted great efforts and made enormous contributions to the success in embarking on a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.  

Hall Three features his efforts in leading the efforts of bringing order out of chaos, advancing socialist reform and opening up and modernization, and contributing to party building during the new period, and his lofty aspirations in late years. The hall includes 94 pictures, 76 documents, 60 physical articles, 2 multi-media exhibits, 2 artistic works, and 17 highlighted text boards. In order to underline his historical contributions to the Central Working Conference, the construction of Baosteel, and improvement of Party conduct and moral integrity, we have arranged the simulation of the Meeting of Northeast Group, the scenes of the construction of Baosteel, and large multi-media interactive exhibits.  

At the end of the exhibition hall, we quote the comments of Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping on Chen Yun, and create a large multi-media video titled “The People Will Not Forget”. The magnificent scenes showcased the pictures and videos of Chen Yun with the people, and his practical manner can be reflected in his words “I have only done a few things.”
