People in Qingpu are industrious, honest and courageous, and have long had the revolutionary traditions of upholding justice and having the courage to fight back. Following the First Opium War in 1840, Qingpu witnessed the occurrence of the Qingpu Missionary Case that astounded people both in China and the world, and the outbreak of the Peasant Revolt in Tangwan and the Qingpu Restoration of the Han Chinese rule. Frequent and continuous struggles against imperialism and feudalism imposed heavy blows to imperialism and the feudal ruling class.
