Stethoscopes

Comrade Chen Yun was in poor health in his old age. Considering Chen was accustomed to the life in his hometown, the medical group suggested him going back to Shanghai for recuperation, therefore from 1990 to 1994, Chen stayed in Shanghai around each Chinese New Year.

During Chen’s stay in Shanghai, Huadong Hospital organized a medical group to take charge of Chen’s health care and designated Doctor Sun Shoujuan to stay at Chen’s residence to observe his condition. This pair of stethoscopes was used by Doctor Sun and the health physician from Beijing for Chen’s auscultation once a week. When Chen was suffering from respiratory infection, doctors also used this pair of stethoscopes to observe Chen’s heart and lung function every day until the pulmonary inflammation was controlled.

Comrade Chen was very compliant to the medical workers and won their respect and affection. They still keep some medical instruments that Chen once used.

Doctor Sun Shoujuan donated her treasured pair of stethoscopes   to the Memorial in commemoration of Comrade Chen's 100th birthday.
